Guest blogging as link building?

Guest blogging is about publishing your content on other people’s blogs. Here, you will typically get a link back to your own website in the author box, and if that’s not possible, you can always include it in the main text.

However, most blogs now have an author box, and while you are at it, make sure to also link to your Twitter and Google+ accounts. One of the great advantages of guest blogging is that you reach people within your target audience, but also individuals who might not already follow you.

How to Find Places to Guest Blog

You find the blogs where you should guest blog by using Google. Simply search for your topics, and you may add ‘blog’ to your query to get even more specific results.

Additionally, you can use tools like Followerwonk to find influential bloggers within your field. Who knows, you might not know all of them already? The advantage here is again that you can also monitor how many of your potential customers follow the blog owner on Twitter, Google+, etc. In short, if they have something to say and if the medium is relevant for your content.

But promise me that you won’t start guest blogging on every blog you can find. Ensure they are relevant, and that they are blogs that are already being read. Here, you should think about quality over quantity; the content you create on other blogs is marketing for yourself, your blog/website, and your business, so remember that!

Scout the Terrain Before You Attack

Before you start a large-scale action, it’s a good idea to first scout the market and find the bloggers you want to contact. If you don’t already know them, it can be immensely helpful to spend some time researching them on a social media platform like Twitter, Google+, or Facebook. Find out which of these platforms they use the most, and join the conversation there. Make sure they notice you in a positive way.

One of the major benefits of guest blogging is that the blog owner usually uses their social network to draw attention to your article. This brings attention, readers, and more followers to you.

Create a list or use an Excel sheet (my own favorite), and list the contact details of all the bloggers you want to reach out to. Find their phone number as well, and call them if you want the highest success rate, or use email as a secondary option if you prefer not to spend time on the phone.
